All the movies, web series, and originals coming to Netflix in December
Netflix India is enjoying a busy December 2022 season, having announced five originals so far. (Actually, the streaming service has “announced” four so far — but we got a fourth via Netflix’s international lineup.) December starts with Starta pre-independence psychological drama from The bulb director Anvitaa Dutt, and Triptii Dimri, Swastika Mukherjee, and Babil Khan. In it, a budding musician (Dimri) faces the pressure of success, his mother’s disdain, and the voices of doubt within him. Start airs December 1. Meanwhile, Randeep Hooda plays a former police informant who returns to the world of drugs and investigations in CAT, out December 9 on Netflix.
The day before that, we will be treated to a short nature documentary by Kartiki Gonsalves, Elephant Whisperers, about a South African couple dedicated to caring for an orphaned baby elephant. The Elephant Whisperers will be available December 8 on Netflix. There’s another Indian documentary – documentaries, really – in December, when Indian Predator returns with its fourth installment, Beast of Bangalore, coming December 16.
And that brings us to the fifth original of December 2022, yet to be revealed by Netflix India. Vir Das returns for a fourth Netflix special with Vir Das: Landing, out Boxing Day, December 26. Das will talk about his childhood, the perils of anger, and finding his feet in the world.
Okay, but what are Netflix’s biggest international debuts in December 2022? I’m happy to ask. Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – available December 23 on Netflix – with writer-director Rian Johnson packing him off to Greece for a new murder mystery involving a tech billionaire and his unusual friends. The most anticipated series is the return of Emily in Paris in its third season – available on December 21 on Netflix – when sales manager Lily Collins gets bangs and tries to convince herself that everything is fine.

If you would like to see the original Netflix series, December 2022 expands the universe of The Witcher with the prequel spin-off The Witcher: Blood Origin. Starring Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, and Laurence O’Fuarain, it’s set more than a thousand years before the events of The Witcher, and seven people banished from the Elven world join forces to stop an all-powerful empire. The Witcher: Blood Origin drops Christmas Day, December 25 on Netflix.
Elsewhere, there are a few spy series you might want to check out. In Treason – on Boxing Day December 26 on Netflix – the bright future of MI6 (Charlie Cox) takes a sharp turn after a reunion with a Russian spy (Olga Kurylenko) forces him to question the rest of his life. On Recruit – out December 16 on Netflix – Black Adam and To All the Boys star Noah Centineo plays a rookie CIA agent who is drawn into the dangerous world of international espionage.
If you prefer movies, Netflix also has a lot in December 2022. On December 9, Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro presents a stop-motion take on the classic wooden animation story. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio features the voices of Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Tilda Swinton, Finn Wolfhard, and Christoph Waltz. In Lady Chatterley’s Lover on December 2, Emma Corrin’s unhappily married nobleman begins an affair with a gamekeeper on her husband’s estate.
Meanwhile, filmmakers Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Noah Baumbach have a new film coming out on their own in December. In Bardo, from Iñárritu and released on December 16 on Netflix, the journalist and the documentarian take an epic journey of reconciliation with the past, the present, and the self. And in White Noise, from Baumbach and out December 30 on Netflix, a professor of Hitler studies (Adam Driver) is torn by an “Airborne Toxic Event”, a dangerous train accident that dumps chemical waste in his city.
Finally, fans of documentaries should keep an eye out for “Sr.”, where Robert Downey Jr. He pays tribute to his late father as he chronicles the life and career of pioneering filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. “Sir.” will be released on December 2nd on Netflix.
