An air purifier is a field but very useful for many reasons. Consumers in India are now enjoying the idea of having an air purifier at home, and various brands are offering products in this segment, including big names like Dyson, Philips, Samsung, and Xiaomi. Throwing its hat into the ring is Aura, a new company that claims to be an expert in the air purifier space, and the product I’m reviewing here is the Aura Air Purifier.

The Aura Air Purifier can be wall mounted, unlike the floor standing air purifiers available in India.
Aura Air Purifier design and features
High-end air purifiers are built in a ‘tower’ or floor-standing form, so the Aura Air Purifier stands out with its wall-mount design. The included screws allow you to easily hang the air purifier on the wall, thus saving valuable floor space. That said, you don’t need to wall mount the Aura Air Purifier; it can be used standing with the fan facing out, so it can be placed on any tabletop.
The Aura Air Purifier is expected to be quite large, with electrical and electronic components at the back of the device, and a removable and replaceable air filter at the front. The rear panel has a grille design that allows fresh air to ‘exit’ the rear after passing the air filter.
Interestingly, the device has just one button, and it’s hard to find, which is used to reset the device when needed. There are no other buttons to control power or fan speed on the Aura Air Purifier itself; when connected to a power source and turned on, the device remains active and can only be turned off by turning off the power from the main battery. You can use the app to adjust the fan speed, though.
The front of the air purifier has a cover over the fan itself, but with space around the edges to draw air effectively. There is also a small light at the bottom, which indicates power and connection status.
Included in the sales package of the Aura Air Purifier is a power adapter and cable that plugs into the back of the main device, and screws and anchors to mount it to the wall. The filtration system (which is said to use Aura’s patented technology) comes pre-installed, and has four air purification features – a pre-filter, a large HEPA Ray filter, an air ioniser, and ultra-violet LED killers. viruses and bacteria. Aura Air Purifier app
The Aura Air Purifier has a companion app called Aura Air (available for Android and iOS), but this app offers very little in the way of controlling the air purifier’s functions. Rather, it is a resource for information about the device’s function and performance. The air purifier works in ‘always on’ mode when it receives power, and the only way to turn it off is to turn off the main power switch or unplug the device, which can be a little inconvenient.
The only major thing about the Aura Air Purifier that you can control is the mode of the device, which basically controls the fan speed and the noise it creates. You can also set a Night Mode schedule, which will have the air purifier running silently. If you keep it in ‘Auto’ mode, it will adjust the fan speed according to the indoor air quality detected.
There are also LED status light controls, and the ability to manually reset the filter date count when installing a new air filter. Aura says the brand new filter is good for up to 180 days of continuous use. The app supports setting up and viewing stats for multiple Aura devices in multiple locations as well.
The Aura Air app is available for iOS and Android, and provides information on indoor and outdoor air quality.
Various integrations are available, including Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Siri, and more. The functions provided by this integration are varied, with some providing controls over power modes, while others provide information and information on air quality through voice commands. Alexa and Siri integration worked as expected, but didn’t add much in the way of functionality; I preferred to use the app to view information or change power modes.
Keeping you informed about air quality is the main function of the Aura Air app. This includes indoor and outdoor air quality measured by AQI (the latter requires local permission to download your location information online), and detailed daily and weekly charts of various air quality levels as measured by the device.
These include sensors for AQI, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, PM10 and PM2.5 levels, humidity, and temperature. The charts are easy to understand, and the app itself works well on iOS.
Performance of Aura Air Purifier
The benefits and effectiveness of an air purifier can only be measured by how you feel, and most air purifier manufacturers recommend using the devices continuously to experience results. The Aura Air Purifier uses a simple method that almost seems to force you to run it all the time; there is no power switch, and the power supply to the device will automatically turn it on and use it.
Unlike the similarly priced Dyson Purifier Cool, the Aura Air Purifier does not have the ability to blow air allowing it to function as a floor fan. Instead, the air is cleaned with a filter from the front and out the sides, which seems to ensure a better flow and volume output.
The results are shown in the app, which showed a noticeable improvement in the air quality in my living room in just 10 minutes. Setting the Aura Air Purifier to ‘Auto’ mode was fine, as it adjusts its performance depending on the air quality in the room. That said, it used to be noisy when the air had a lot of dirt, but it subsided and quieted down a bit after a while.
The Ray filter is expected to be useful for about 180 days, after which it will need to be replaced.
The night mode ensured that the Aura Air Purifier ran quietly, and this meant that it took longer to bring the air quality levels up to code. When running all day and with the windows and doors of other rooms kept closed, the device was able to maintain decent air quality levels throughout the day, while operating quietly.
Opening the windows obviously caused the device to work harder, and it is generally recommended to turn off the air cleaner when the windows are open. However, the Aura Air Purifier’s always-on power mode suggests that you are meant to let it run even when the windows and doors of the room are open, but be aware that this can cause the Ray filter to be replaced more often than expected.
In terms of air purification quality, it’s hard to say how well the Aura Air Purifier worked for me, but the air felt cleaner indoors on days when I used the air purifier compared to days when it was off. The air quality charts produced by the Aura Air app showed significant progress and improvements in air quality in both the short and long term, with different room conditions often showing up as expected on the charts.
The decision
The Aura Air Purifier looks great, provides air purification that looks good, and is very easy to use. However, it falls a little short when it comes to performance-wise and the ability to set it up and use it the way you like. The simplified approach may sound good in theory, but the lack of a power button and detailed controls feel awkward in practice.
In addition, the Aura Air Purifier seems to be a little expensive for what it offers, even the price of replacement filters comes as quite high. It may appeal to those looking for a wall-mounted air purifier that works well, but competing options from brands like Dyson, Philips, and Samsung are more appealing in the premium segment.
