Beeple Acquires Solana, Plans to Deliver Embedded 3D NFTs
Solana’s ecosystem conference titled Breakpoint is ongoing and nearing completion in Lisbon, Portugal. A number of developments surrounding the Solana blockchain were announced at the four-day event that began on November 3 and will wrap up on Monday, November 7. Among other announcements, Mike ‘Beeple’ Winkelmann’s onboarding of the Solana ecosystem. The famous NFT artist has confirmed that he will bring unique 3D NFTs to Solana blockchain as part of his joining the blockchain family.
Stephen Hess, CEO of Metaplex Studios and founder of Solana’s NFT level, welcomed the 41-year-old artist to Solana in Lisbon.
A slide that was part of Hess’ welcome note for Beeple hinted that people will be able to create unique NFTs inspired by random objects and Beeple’s popular ‘Everydays’ collection that sold for over $69 million (roughly Rs. 566 crore) in 2021.
Historically Beeple will be the first NFT artist to introduce 3D touch to NFTs that will carry 3D and streaming capabilities on the Solana blockchain.
Back in November 2021, Beeple’s HUMAN ONE NFT project had sold for $28.9 million (roughly Rs. 215 crore) at a New York City-based Christie’s auction.
The spectacular seven-foot-tall artwork was created using four large LED screens embedded in wood and frame-like structures made of aluminum. It was the first 3D video sculpture supported by the Ethereum blockchain and was described by Beeple as “the first image of a person born into the metaverse”.
Meanwhile, in other key announcements from Solana’s conference, top ecosystem dignitaries shared Solana’s plans for the near future, announcements related to Solana’s upcoming Saga smartphone, and about Solana’s collaboration with Google Cloud, a. Cointelegraph report said.
Since July of this year, NFTs built on the Solana blockchain have shown the most sales on the Magic Eden market. OpenSea has also added support for Solana-based NFTs to be traded on its platform.
