Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Post-Credits Scene, Explained

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – now playing in cinemas worldwide – ends with the words “Black Panther will return,” as did the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film before it, Thor: Love and Thunder. It promises that the superhero and the world of Wakanda will be back for more. Although there has been no announcement about that, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that he has had discussions about a third one. black panther movies with Wakanda Forever director Ryan Cooler. And if you were hoping that the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever post-credits scene would give you any clues about that, there aren’t any. That said, it gives us something that hasn’t happened in the comics – and it finds a way forward for the character of T’Challa, who retired after the death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020.

The mid-credits scene for the new one black panther The movie begins where the movie ends: on a Haitian beach. A crying Shuri (Letitia Wright) is joined by Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and a young boy (Divine Love Konadu-Sun). Nakia claims that Toussaint is her son, she had him before the death of T’Challa/Black Panther (Boseman), and now she wants to introduce him to her “aunt” Shuri. Now, although the word aunt is more flexible in African cultures – as it is in India – it is clear to everyone in the room who the father is. Thankfully, the film also doesn’t dance to it for long.

Nakia tells Shuri that T’Challa suggested they stay out of Wakanda, which will allow Toussaint to grow without the pressure of the throne. And even though they knew about T’Challa’s illness, they didn’t want them at his funeral. That would put the boy in the Wakandan spotlight at the worst possible time. Nakia and Toussaint had their own little party for him, he adds. This also explains Nakia’s absence from Wakanda—and the beginning of the youth black panther the movie. Suri wonders if her late mother, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), met Toussaint. Nakia says yes.

Shuri and Toussaint exchanged their first words, the boy realizing that he had heard that his aunt was good at keeping secrets. Toussaint is his Haitian name, he adds. When Shuri asks who he is in his native language, he replies: “I am Prince T’Challa, son of King T’Challa.” Coogler and Feige have said they won’t play T’Challa again, so they’ve got the best move for Black Panther’s future. Give T’Challa a child (and give him the same name), who will age eventually. These are great shoes for an actor to complete 15-20 years.

To me, this is also interesting on a political level. T’Challa and Nakia were never officially married, at least on screen. How many tribes of Wakanda will take the child of their late king who goes by his name but did not live among them. Will you be accepted? And while he may be the eldest son of a late king, Wakanda doesn’t provide that. Anyone can challenge to become the Black Panther and take the throne. M’Baku enters the fray at the end of Wakanda Forever – and of course, there’s Shuri, who has taken on the mantle of Black Panther.

But given the boy’s age, it’s not a thing black panther the film will need to deal with it for a long time. And who knows what state Wakanda will be in by then.
