Carrie-Anne Moss, Lee Jung-jae Join Star Wars: The Acolyte Cast
Star Wars: The Acolyte cast revealed. In a tweet, Disney+ confirmed that the female-centric Star Wars series has begun production in the UK, revealing its ensemble cast including The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss and Lee Jung-jae of The Squid Game fame. Set in a different timeline than all the other small screen ‘galaxy far, far away’ projects, the eight-episode series is directed by Leslye Headland, best known for creating Netflix’s Russian Doll. Star Wars: Acolyte doesn’t have a premiere date, but it will be available to stream on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar once it’s released.
First revealed in 2020, Star Wars: Acolyte is described as a mystical game, set in the final days of the High Republic era, as dark forces emerge. A former Padawan reunites with his Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but becomes entangled in a force far worse than originally expected. The High Republic timeline saw the Jedi Order at its strongest, and is set centuries before the events in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Disney previously it was revealed Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies) as a leading member of the cast and now she has revealed the rest of the list.
First, we have the aforementioned Jung-jae, who became the first Asian actor to win an Emmy Award for best actor in a drama series, this year – thanks to Netflix’s global hit, The Squid Game. Acolyte also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, who was last seen in The Matrix Resurrections, although there is currently no information on their roles. Acolyte joins the list of live-action Star Wars TV projects on Disney’s streaming service, which includes The Mandalorian, which is scheduled to drop its third season in February 2023.
And then there is Andorwhich concludes its season 1 run later this month, November 23, on Disney + Hotstar. Andor season 2 begins filming on November 21, signing up three new directors: Ariel Kleiman (Partisan), Janus Metz (True Detective), and Alonso Ruizpalacios (Cop Movie). Writers Beau Willimon and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) remain on board as writers, and are joined by newcomer Tom Bissell – best known for writing video games such as Gears 5 and Batman: Arkham Origins.
Star Wars: Acolyte currently does not have a release window. The series will air across Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar.
