Elon Musk Has Suspended Kanye West’s Twitter Account
Rapper Ye is no longer buying the right-wing social media platform Parler, the company said Thursday.
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, had offered to buy Parlor in October. Meanwhile, Ye and Parlement Technologies, which owns Parler, said the acquisition would be completed in the last three months of the year. The sale price and other details were not disclosed.
“This decision was made to benefit both parties in mid-November,” said Parliament Technologies in a statement on Thursday.
On Friday morning, Ye’s Twitter account was suspended after the rapper posted a picture of a swastika combined with the Star of David. New Twitter CEO Elon Musk confirmed the suspension in a tweet in response to Ye’s posting of an unflattering photo of the billionaire, which Ye called his “last tweet.”
“I tried my best. Despite that, he again violated our law against incitement to violence. The account will be suspended,” Musk said on Twitter.
Parler is a small platform in the emerging space of alt-right, alt-right and libertarian social apps that promises little or no moderation to eliminate hate speech, racism and misinformation, among other inappropriate content. None of the sites came close to reaching normal status.
Parler was launched in August 2018 but didn’t hit the shelves until 2020. It was taken offline in January 2021 due to its connection to the deadly uprising at the US Capitol earlier that month. A month after the attack, Parler announced a relaunch but did not return to Google Play until September of this year.
Ye has made a series of controversial comments in recent weeks, including praising Hitler in an interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Thursday. Ye’s comments led to his suspension from social media, his talent agency dropped him and companies like Adidas cut ties with him. The sporting goods manufacturer has also launched an investigation into its conduct.
