Grand Theft Auto Maker Blocks NFTs And Crypto On Online Role Playing Servers
Rockstar Games, creator of iconic titles such as the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series and Red Dead Redemption, has updated its policy on role-playing servers and mods after years of silence about them. In the new policy update, Rockstar has banned the use of crypto currencies or crypto assets such as non-sworn tokens (NFTs), creating new content such as games, stories, missions, or maps, generating revenue through sponsorships, and more. Despite acknowledging the richness of community-created experiences within its titles, Rockstar is removing key features of its games and reportedly banning users and mods following the revised policy.

They extend the gameplay beyond what players can do in a regular game by allowing them to play as regular non-playable characters like police officers, judges, or taxi drivers.
The company stressed that it still supports these servers despite the new restrictions. It also prohibited the importation or misuse of other IP in the project, including other Rockstar IP, real-world characters, characters, trademarks or music; and creating new games, stories, missions or maps.
“Rockstar Games has always believed in meaningful fan innovation and wants creators to show their passion for our games. Third-party ‘Roleplaying’ servers are an extension of the rich community-created content within Grand Theft Auto that we hope will continue to thrive in a safe and friendly manner for many years to come, ” said the company.
