India’s Smartphone Shipments to Fall 11 Percent in Q3 2022: Counterpoint


Smartphone shipments in India fell 11 percent YoY in Q3 2022 to reach over 45 million units, according to the latest Counterpoint Research data. Chinese electronics brand Xiaomi took the top spot among other smartphone brands with a shipment share of 21 percent. Samsung followed closely behind Xiaomi to take second place with an 18 percent market share. Vivo and Realme were placed third and fourth respectively, closely followed by Oppo in fifth place. Smartphone shipments in India Q3 2022 also saw Apple achieve its highest market share of 5 percent in the Indian market. The third quarter was also the first time that the iPhone (iPhone 13) topped India’s quarterly smartphone shipment rankings.

A recent study by Counterpoint reported that smartphone shipments in India he saw the descent of 11 percent YoY in Q3 2022 to reach over 45 million units. Although Xiaomi’s YoY shipments fell by 19 percent, the Chinese company managed to maintain the top spot with a 21 percent market share. Xiaomi is also the leading 5G smartphone brand in Q3 2022 in India for under Rs. 20,000 price band.

South Korean electronics company Samsung came in second for the quarter with an 18 percent market share. Samsung was the number one smartphone brand in India in September. The company also earned Rs. 10,000- Rs. 20,000 price band, which was mainly driven by Galaxy M-series and F-series models. Samsung was the fastest growing brand among the top five brands in the premium segment.

As mentioned earlier, Vivo took third place while Realme came in fourth place in Q3 2022. Chinese tech company Oppo stood in fifth place, although it was down 7% YoY in Q3 2022.

This quarter also saw American technology company Apple achieve its highest Indian market share of 5 percent. The iPhone 13 was the first iPhone to surpass all phones shipped in India in the quarter.
