James Gunn Sees Teasing Mister Terrific Project
DC Studios head James Gunn appeared to be teasing the Mister Terrific project. The director of Suicide Squad has shared a photo of little-known superhero Michael Holt, leading fans to speculate that she may be coming to the larger DC Universe. An extensive report last month suggested that Gunn was developing two secret DC Comics projects, before being named chairman and CEO along with producer Peter Safran. The filmmaker also has a reputation for introducing minor comic book characters, as seen in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and his HBO Max series Peacemaker. With Gunn in charge of DC’s film, TV, and animation projects, we can see such presentations all over the place.
Created by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake, Michael Holt is the second person to wear the Mister Terrific mantle, first appearing in 1997. the specter Vol. 3. He was born with an eidetic memory, collected 14 Ph.D., long before he became a crime fighter, and is focused on strategic analysis, multilingualism, and has a high personality, due to extensive training. While contemplating suicide following the accidental death of his wife and unborn child, Holt was met by the Spirit of God’s Vengeance, known as the Spectre—an atheist—who introduced him to a “Golden Age” hero called Mister Terrific/Terry Sloane. Inspired by the story, he takes on the role and dedicates his life to fighting crime.
Later, he joins the Justice Society of America (JSA), which has just made its debut in the group led by Dwayne Johnson. Black Adam, as to whether Gunn plans to inject Mister Terrific into the lore, remains to be seen. Similar to Batman, Mister Terrific lacks superpowers and relies on high-tech gadgets like the multipurpose T Spheres and the T-Mask, making him invisible to all forms of electronic detection. The character was previously adapted for live action on The CW Network’s arrows season 4, played by Echo Kellem, although his name was changed to Curtis Holt. Mister Terrific also appeared in the animated TV series Justice League Unlimited and Beware the Batman.
Reports Last week it was revealed that both Gunn and Safran were planning an eight-to-10-year plan for DC films, TV series, and animated projects. “The opportunity to make DC as good as it can be and as it should be—that’s why I’m doing this job because I know that Peter and I can do that,” Gunn said. “We spent the last few days with a group of some of the best minds in the industry, the best writers in the industry starting to plan an eight- to 10-year plan for what it’s going to look like in theaters, on television, in animation, all of these characters.
This is in line with Warner Bros. The plans of Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who wanted to “reset” the DC Extended Universe, with interconnected stories that build to a spectacular climax. Akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, helmed by President Kevin Feige. The company also brought Henry Cavill back into the mix, with reports suggesting a Man of Steel sequel, and the quiet removal of former DC Films president Walter Hamada, to follow.
