MIUI 14 Changelog Leaked Ahead of Launch: Here’s What’s New

MIUI 14, an update to Xiaomi’s Android 13-based operating system for eligible smartphones, appears to have been leaked on Twitter ahead of its official announcement. The OS was to be revealed next to the Xiaomi 13 smartphone series, on December 1. However, the company recently revealed that it has postponed the launch event, and a new date is yet to be announced. The MIUI 14 update will be based on Android 13, but some older Xiaomi smartphones may also receive an update based on Android 12, based on Xiaomi’s previous MIUI releases over the years.

MIUI Polska author Kacper Skrzypek in a tweet MIUI 14 changelog, describes the changes in the upcoming Xiaomi skin. According to the screenshots of the changelog, MIUI 14 will take up less storage space and include improved system architecture, resulting in better performance, efficient energy saving and improved gaming experience. The changelog also says the OS will focus on security, offering more support for end-to-end privacy features.

Users can also look forward to increased personalization, with more combinations of widgets, more beautiful icons for the redesigned home screen and folders that highlight apps for one-tap access, according to the leaked screenshot. Smart features such as text recognition on gallery images also appear to be on the way, with eight languages supported.

The changelog has a section dedicated to connectivity, which calls for a “critical update” of the Mi Smart Hub, which is scheduled to work faster and support more devices. The connection of various devices is expected to be improved, with a greater share of bandwidth that improves detection, connection and transmission between phone, tablet, headphones and TV.

The update is said to bring more focus to Xiaomi’s device ecosystem. “Whenever you need to add subtitles to your TV, you can find a convenient hack on your phone and add subtitles there,” says the changelog. Incoming phone calls can be quickly transferred to the tablet, too.

According to the MIUI 14 update changelog screenshots, iOS-style family sharing is also on the way, with shareable photo albums available for a group of up to eight members. There is also added functionality to the Mi AI voice assistant, which can now double as a scanner, translator and a call assistant that filters out spam calls. There are other minor improvements, including advanced search capabilities and deeper parental controls.

There is no word yet on the official announcement of the Xiaomi 13 and MIUI 14 series after the postponement of the launch event on Thursday. The Chinese manufacturing giant first announced an early access program for Chinese users to take the OS for testing before the official release. It’s also worth noting that some of these features may not be available to users outside of China, where the OS is finally rolling out to users around the world.
