OnePlus phones get more Android OS updates than Google


OnePlus has announced four years of OxygenOS updates for select phones scheduled to launch next year. Apart from that, the smartphone maker will also provide five years of security updates for these phones. Although the names of the smartphones receiving additional OS updates have not been confirmed, it is very likely that they will work on their flagships arriving in 2023. This is a big promise made by Android OEM as many popular smartphone companies offer all three. years of OS updates.

Gary Chen, head of software products, said the official OnePlus social posts that the company will provide four years of OxygenOS and five years of security updates. He also said that OnePlus wants its users to keep their devices for a long time and therefore, this new update policy will provide access to the latest security and functional features of the phone.

“As a user-focused company, we do everything we can to improve our user experience. Since many users keep their devices for a long time, we want to make sure that we can offer you that possibility. This new update policy will give you access to the latest security and the newest features needed to run the fast OnePlus signature and smooth throughout the life of the phone,” the post said.

This is good news for OnePlus users. As of now, the company is offering three major OxygenOS updates and four years of security updates to its premium phones like the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 9, and the OnePlus 10 series. However, low-cost phones like the OnePlus 7, OnePlus Nord, and and the OnePlus Nord 2 only received two major OS updates.

Recently, OnePlus launched the Android 13-based OxygenOS 13 update for its OnePlus 8 series, which includes the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, and OnePlus 8T. An update based on Android 13 was launched for the OnePlus 10 Pro in September, and the OnePlus 9 series in November. The update comes with the company’s Quantum Animation Engine 4.0 with a new feature for behavior recognition, real body movements in images, and improved fonts, among others aesthetics, communication, personalization, security and privacy, health and digital health, performance optimization, and improvements related to the gaming experience.

Meanwhile, Samsung is offering four years of major Android upgrades to the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy A53, Galaxy A33, Galaxy Fold 3 and Galaxy Fold 4 phones. Having said that, Google is offering three years of OS and five years of security updates for its recently launched Pixel 7 series.
