Rings of Power Adds 7 New Members to Its Cast List
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has added seven new recurring cast members for the upcoming second season, which is currently in production in the UK.
Actors Gabriel Akuwdike, Yasen Atour, Ben Daniels, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, and Nicholas Woodeson join the show along with Sam Hazeldine (Peaky Blinders), who will replace Joseph Mawle in the role of Orc leader Adar.
“Since its premiere, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been bringing audiences together to experience the magic and wonder of JRR Tolkien’s epic Middle-earth. To date, the first season is the top Original series on Amazon Prime Video in all regions and has been viewed by more than 100 million people worldwide, a global hit that speaks to the universal nature of powerful storytelling.
“We welcome these fantastic actors to our ‘partnership’ and look forward to telling the best Second Age stories in season two,” said Vernon Sanders, Head of Global Television, Amazon Studios, in a statement.
The Rings of Power is based primarily on the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, particularly the description of the Second Age of Middle-earth, and includes smaller versions of some key characters from the original trilogy.
Set thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s famous book series, the Amazon show follows the creation of a primal power during the Second Age that allowed the Dark Lord Sauron to spread evil throughout Middle-Earth.
JD Payne created the show in collaboration with Patrick McKay. Payne also works as a showman.
