Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy S20 FE Get Android 13-Based One UI 5 Update


Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy S20 FE are reported to be updated to One UI 5 based on Android 13. The company’s previous ‘Fan Edition’ smartphones were both launched in India. The updates to the handsets also add new features baked into Samsung’s customized One UI 5.0 skin, in addition to performance improvements and cosmetic updates. It is worth noting that currently, only the Exynos version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE handset is getting the One UI 5 update.

SamMobile reported that the update it first comes out on the old Fan Edition smartphone which was soon followed by the take out in the latest Fan Edition model called Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G.

Currently, only the Exynos version of the Galaxy S20 FE (or the 4G/LTE model) has started receiving the update. Android 13 update for Galaxy S20 FE 5G (with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC) is yet to be released.

As per the report, the update has started rolling out to handsets sold in Russia and will come to smartphones sold in other regions soon. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has been updated to firmware version G780FXXUAEVK3, which is around 2GB in size and comes with the November 2022 Android security patch.

As for the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G, the Android 13 update is still rolling out separately (model number SM-G990B) and updates the phone to firmware version G990BXXU2DVK3. The update is approximately 2.3GB in size and has started rolling out globally in batches.

Users of both the smartphones who have not received the over-the-air update notification can check for updates by going to Settings , software updates , Download and install if available,

Android 13 brings many new features to devices that can run the software. Although Samsung users will have to settle for a skinned version of the operating system (compared to Google Pixel devices) with One UI, they get a lot of cosmetic changes including a redesigned lock screen, new app icons, multitasking gestures and more. Performance improvements and basic features of Android 13 and updates have also made it better.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE and its 5G variant were announced globally back in 2020. India initially received only the 4G variant of the smartphone with the Exynos 990 SoC in September 2020. Samsung followed up with the 5G variant in March 2021. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE (launched in January 2022) switched to the Exynos SoC and with – Exynos 2100 processor.
