Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Said To Get Qualcomm CPU, GPU Cores
The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is expected to be launched in February 2023 and will likely be the first set of Galaxy smartphones to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Recent rumors suggest that the flagship Galaxy trio may feature a special version of Qualcomm’s new SoC with CPU and GPU cores. Earlier this year, Samsung and Qualcomm signed a multi-year agreement in which it was noted that Samsung will use the majority of Snapdragon SoCs in its Galaxy S23 series, meaning that the Exynos-powered S23 handsets will be less expensive.
Samsung has had a long relationship with Qualcomm and in the past, we’ve seen Galaxy S-series smartphones being the first to ship with flagship Qualcomm SoCs before anyone else, so it’s no surprise to hear that Samsung’s next big launch will have a special edition. SoCs are designed for their flagships.
This new information is coming with Prolific Twitter tipster, Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), tweeted that Samsung will have a special edition Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC where the main CPU core will have a frequency of 3.36GHz (vs 3.2GHz) and Adreno GPU will have frequency. of 719MHz (vs 680MHz). These are both high frequencies that the SoC can go up to, when the need arises. Ice Universe does not explicitly say that this special type of SoC will be in the Galaxy S23 series, but considering the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is Qualcomm’s flagship SoC, it is clear that the S23 series will be the first to receive it.
Samsung special edition Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (we don’t know its official name yet) CPU 3.2GHz→3.36GHz. Surprisingly, the GPU is also boosted from 680MHz to 719MHz.

Being able to run at a higher speed than stock also presents the possibility of more heat build-up, so it will be interesting to see how Samsung handles this with its cooling system. I wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung decided to use this redundant SoC only in the Galaxy S23 Ultra, because that phone is expected to be heavier and larger than the other two, which means it could have a more efficient cooling solution. This will allow Samsung to have another difference between its Ultra model and the other two.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 series has been in the rumor mill for a few weeks now. The lineup is expected to include three models – Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The rumored Ultra model is said to sport a quad camera unit on the back led by a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL sensor. The main rear camera sensor may have a pixel size of 0.6-micron pixels and an aperture of f/1.7.
