Samsung India Sells Smartphones Worth Rs. 14,400 Crore During the Holiday Season
Samsung India sold mobile phones worth Rs. 14,400 crore between September and October and recorded 99 percent growth in the premium smartphone segment in the first three quarters of 2022, a company executive said on Friday.
Samsung India managing director and head of product marketing Aditya Babbar told PTI that the company has recorded a 178 percent jump in sales in terms of volume of 5G smartphones between January and September 2022 year-on-year.
“Samsung had a record holiday season this year. This was an impressive performance due to the huge revenue we posted at Rs. 14,400 crore in the 60-day period beginning September 1,” he said.
Without disclosing exact percentages, Babbar said growth was in healthy double digits compared to last year’s holiday season sales.
He said Samsung Finance Plus was one of the major contributors to growth and transactions on this platform tripled to over 10 lakh during the festive season.
“Growth has been better in tier 2 and tier 3 cities but it has done very well in cities as well,” Babbar said.
The company recorded 99 percent growth in value terms in premium segment smartphones priced above Rs. 30,000 each in January-September 2022 compared to the same period last year.
“Samsung is the fastest growing premium segment brand in India after the S22 and Foldables phones. Our growth has been 99 per cent in the Rs. 30,000 plus segment compared to January-September last year,” he said. Babbar.
According to a recent Counterpoint Research report, Samsung was the second largest smartphone seller in India with an 18 percent market share in July-September quarter and remained the best-selling smartphone in the country.
The company says its mobile phone business grew 20 percent and had a 22 percent revenue market share in the first nine months of 2022.
“We have also been the number 1 brand since 2013. Consumers are embracing more 5G and premium phones. We are at the forefront of democratizing 5G with a Rs. 10,900 device. We have 20 5G enabled devices. We are the no. 1 in 5G production in the last four quarters,” Babbar said.
He also said that the company will issue software updates to all 5G devices on November 15 and most of the devices have started to support 5G services.
