Super Mario Bros. New movie trailer coming tomorrow
Super Mario Bros. The movie gets a new trailer tomorrow. In a tweet, Nintendo confirmed that the animated video game directed by Chris Pratt is getting a special second presentation. The event will be live on Nintendo’s official YouTube channels on November 30 at 3:30am IST in India/ November 29 at 2pm PT in the US. As part of the announcement, Nintendo also dropped the new Super Mario Bros. A movie poster featuring Princess Peach’s throne, placed in front of a stained glass window that resembles her likeness.
The first trailer for Super Mario Bros. The film never featured the royal damsel in distress, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit). We get a brief glimpse of Peach’s mountaintop castle, followed by Pratt’s (Guardians of the Galaxy) first vocal line as Mario, who doesn’t have the sort of high-pitched Italian accent. Pratt’s attachment to the movie raised concerns across the gaming industry, even more so, when he told Variety that his voice acting was “unlike anything you’ve heard in the world of Mario before.” The film also features Charles Martinet in its cast, who previously voiced Mario and Luigi in video games. You can guess why he doesn’t play the area.
Nintendo also clarified that the Direct event is only dedicated to Super Mario Bros. Movie trailers, and new video game updates will be provided. Additional cast members include Jack Black (Tropic Thunder) as Bowser, Seth Rogen (Superbad) as Donkey Kong, and Keegan-Michael Key (The Lion King) as Toad.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic co-directed Super Mario Bros. The movie is under the direction of the original game creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who is attached as a producer. Matthew Fogel, best known for Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Lego Movie 2: Part Two, serves as writer.
Earlier this month, John Leguizamo, who played Luigi in the 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. film, expressed his disappointment with the casting decisions in the upcoming animated version of Inseparable. “Directors Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton fought hard for me to be in the lead [in the 1993 Super Mario Bros. film] for I was a Latin man, too [the studio] I didn’t want to lead. They fought really hard, and it was a great success. So that they retreat and don’t throw another one [actor of colour] kind of bad,” he said in a recent interview.
This is the second time Leguizamo has expressed his concern about “white” actors. The first was after the first trailer, when he tweeted (via daily mail) that he is “the only one who knows how to make this movie work with clever writing!” Remember, Pratt or Leguizamo are from Italy.
Super Mario Bros. The film will be released on April 7, 2023, in cinemas worldwide.
