The Elephant Whisperers, an upcoming short nature documentary from India, has just received a trailer. Set in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu, the film follows the heartwarming story of an elderly couple, Bomman and Belle, who dedicate their lives to caring for an orphaned baby elephant. Expect lots of cute photos with this one, as the couple bathe this soft creature, tie a bell around its neck, and even name it Raghu — adding it to the family as their own child. Elephant Whisperers marks the directorial debut of Kartiki Gonsalves, and is expected to release on December 8 on Netflix.

The trailer for The Elephant Whisperers focuses on the small tantrums caused by the giant creature, such as refusing to go into the shade when it’s raining or being fixed on a certain route on your daily walk. “He only likes to go this way. There is no other place,” Belle explained her habits. “Did you see that you are naughty?” Old blub from Netflix title page showed that caring for elephants was a generation-long family business, which is further expanded in this trailer, as we see Raghu being escorted to a nearby town on some undisclosed errand. There is also a picture of him participating in a religious ceremony, presumably to ward off any bad omens.

I have always felt a deep connection with our natural world. “I am so honored to tell this special story of Bomman and Belle and their elephant calf, Raghu,” said The Elephant Whisperers director Gonsalves in a prepared statement. . My goal is to reach, engage and touch the hearts of audiences around the world and help them better understand our connection with elephants and the other living creatures we share our environment with.”

The 41-minute short documentary will be available in Tamil, accompanied by English subtitles. Elephant Whisperers is produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain under their banner Sikhya Entertainment, which is best known for the Irrfan Khan-led The Lunchbox. The Elephant Whisperers is making the rounds at the DOC NYC 2022 Film Festival in the US, in early November.
