The trailer of Vicky Kaushal starrer Govinda Naam Mera is out. Disney+ Hotstar has dropped the trailer for the upcoming fantasy musical about a part-time dance producer who turns into a murder suspect when his wife’s abusive antics go viral. Shashank Khaitan, who shot to fame with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, is writing and directing the film under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions banner. Ironically, the film was first marketed as part of the Amazon Prime Video lineup in April and has now moved on to Disney + Hotstar. Govinda Naam Mera releases on December 16 on the platform.

The Govinda Naam Mera trailer opens with our protagonist (Kaushal) dreaming of his employee/girlfriend Suku (Kiara Advani), with whom he hopes to spend his life. That dream is soon cut short, when his wife Gauri (Bhumi Pednekar) kicks him to listen to the ringing doorbell, treating him like a failure. The already dysfunctional relationship takes a turn for the worse when Govinda is introduced to his wife’s unnamed boyfriend, played by Viraj Ghelani (Small Things). Tired of the constant arguments and hypocrisy when it comes to extramarital affairs, he pleads with Gauri for a divorce, only to be met with a clapped back: “You want a divorce, don’t you? Give me Rs. 2 crores and get what you want. It turns out that Govinda is deeply in debt and is in danger of losing his house.

Midway through the Govinda Naam Mera trailer, our lead snaps and pulls out a gun, intent on killing. “Hey Manju, please don’t shout,” he told the host in shock. “He doesn’t have the courage to shoot me.” Although not clearly revealed, the trailer reveals that Govinda succeeds in his act, though not at the time, prompting the housekeeper to inform the local police. Dayanand Shetty (CID) plays a senior officer, who is in charge of the investigation, and arrests Govinda and Suku, although he fails to find the body. “Everybody knows about murder, except the police,” he said to the audience. “How sad.”

Production on Govinda Naam Mera began in March 2021, after Kaushal replaced Varun Dhawan (Bhediya) in the Karan Johar-produced film. Filming had to be halted for a few weeks in April, when leads Kaushal and Pednekar tested positive for COVID-19. At that time, the film was said to have a title Mr. Lay down,
